Let's Chat: Food Trucks

It kills me to know that there are cities with the exact same weather as us who have food trucks. By food trucks I simply mean restaurants on wheels, sort of like the Bus Stop downtown but mobile. I realize that there are such things that exist in the city but are only used during special events such as the Fringe (which begins today). I'm not sure if there is some sort of law that prevents it or if entrepreneurs do not see this being feasible but I am writing as a consumer. I want to experience food trucks, I watch Eat St. often and it covers a lot of restaurants around the United States and British Columbia. The food they produce can really give indoor restaurants a run for their money. My friend Pat blogged a couple months back of an event in Edmonton called "What the Truck", he also took this photo below.

If other places in Canada such as Edmonton are able to do this, I would like to see it in Saskatoon too. I really feel like we are missing out.

  2. I have a few friends that want to get into food trucks... but there are bylaws preventing them currently. I believe the bylaws are set up so that there is so much red-tape to jump through its not worth the effort of doing so.

    1. That's upsetting, maybe things will change in the future.

  3. I'd like to know exactly which bylaws prohibit this. I could really use a nice pulled pork sandwich from a food truck right about now.

  4. I think it's more regulations to meet than bylaws that prohibit. Also our winters don't really allow for a food truck to operate all year round so it would have to be a summer job almost exclusively. I assume most people can't manage the massive investment for a few months of work. But I'm with you for sure! I love them and some trucks are putting out amazing food. I had one of the best meals of my life at The Lime Truck in Los Angeles two weeks ago. Who would've thought you could get quality duck confit off a truck on the street??
