Just a Taste: Poached Breakfast Bistro

Poached Over Asparagus

Location
Poached has the same location as Flint. It is downtown at 259 2nd Avenue South.

Environment
Poached serves as a breakfast joint in the morning and Flint serves as a bar/lounge in the evening. As soon as you walk through the front entrance, you must walk through a curtain where servers may lead you to table. The restaurant is long and narrow with limited seating, I really like the modern look. Our server was also great, she put up with my indecisive ordering and gave off a positive energy.

Menu
The menu is small, but it gives you a tough time ordering with many good options. You can select traditional breakfast options like eggs benedict, omlettes, French toast and more. You can also choose sides such as turkey sausage, cornmeal crusted back bacon and roasted asparagus. Poached is also known for their hand-squeezed orange juice.

Food
I ordered the poached eggs over crab (pollock) cakes and shared a side of potato croquettes and turkey sausage. The poached eggs were covered in a red pepper sauce and the crab cakes were panko crusted. Both were delicious, it was a good sized serving and delicious. The crab cakes were soft and crispy offering a good texture. The salad was also good, but made the meal more appealing with the colour it provided.

I didn't get a shot of the turkey sausage, but it resembled bratwurst with softer skin and a more tender texture. The potato croquettes were great, I have never had anything really like them. It is potato and herbs panko crusted and served with goat cheese. They also offer a side of rye bread or a bagel.

Conclusion
I was really happy with both the food and service and it is Aashna's favourite place for breakfast. Needless to say, I will be returning and hope to eventually try everything on the menu.
