The Saskatoon Side Walk Sale

Bon howdy everybody. Today until the 7th, there's a big ol' sidewalk sale going on on 2nd Avenue downtown.

Ryan and/or JJ might be working. Go say hi.

Go take a peek. Might find some nice stuff. And if not, then just be happy you're living in the new Willenium.

Great Western Brewing Company: 22nd Annual Pancake Breakfast for Charity

This year from July 9 to July 13, Great Western Brewery will be hosting pancake breakfasts to donate towards Epilepsy Saskatoon. I have friends and friends of friends who work for Investors Group and they will be serving breakfast on July 10. It costs $5 with proceeds going to Epilepsy Saskatoon. They will be serving pancakes, sausage and coffee. The event is located on 519 2nd Avenue North from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.

Enjoy breakfast with friends and family while donating to a good cause!

Movies: The Amazing Spider-Man

There's no denying that this summer is the summer of superheroes. The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider Man.

I will say this now, The Amazing Spider Man is definitely no (The) Avengers, but that being said, it's still a good watch.

Yesterday afternoon I got a call from a friend saying that there were advanced screenings of The Amazing Spider Man for 8:00PM. I didn't think I had anything to do yesterday, so I agreed to go.

The Amazing Spider Man is a reboot of the Spider Man film series, starting off with new cast and directors. Andrew Garfield plays Peter Parker / Spider Man and Emma Stone plays Parker's original love interest, Gwen Stacy. So it's the whole origin story all over again, but this time with The Lizard as opposed to the Green Goblin like the first trilogy.

The Lizard is an excellent stepping stone for the first of this series, he's not too critical of an antagonist, but is still crucial to the development of Peter Parker's story.

Remember this show?

Well the first bad guy was The Lizard. So there we go.

This movie did a way better job of portraying Spider Man than the previous trilogy in the fact that he is more of a wise cracking smart aleck than some sort of introverted teenager.

Also, he made web shooters. They weren't natural web shooters like the other movies. That always bugged me.

Hell, even the fighting scenes in the movie felt more like Spider Man than the last movie despite it being 85% CGI. His fighting style was a lot like a... well, a spider. Instead of kicking and punching, Spider Man was all over the place, completely utilizing his environment to his advantage as he should be.

In its own way, this movie subtly set the tone of what's to come in this new series of films. The most significant of it all had to be the nonchalant introduction to OsCorp, which is Norman Osborn's (The Green Goblin) company.

So you know The Green Goblin is gonna pop up. Maybe the next movie? Maybe the one after that.

Alright, maybe I compared this movie a lot to the original series, but that doesn't mean you absolutely have to watch the original series to like this movie.

It stands on its own as it should, seeing as it is a reboot, with new characters and stories.

Should you go see it? Definitely. Instead of Hollywood butchering most adaptations of novels, movies or video games, this movie will give you the same feeling as if you were reading the comic books.

Case and Point
The Amazing Spider Man is: as close to reading a picture book you can get without the reading part.

Just a Taste: Spadina Freehouse

Location
The Freehouse is located on Spadina right beside the Sheraton Cavalier.

Environment
This is a very fun place to go out to eat. There are live DJ's, live shows, artwork around the restaurant and a "happening" patio. Servers enjoy themselves and provide great service too. I will mention though that this place is often busy, they take reservations majority of the days too.

Menu
The Freehouse has many appetizers, an impressive drink menu, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and entrees. I believe most meals sit between $10-$25.

Food
I've eaten here in the past and I really enjoy their appetizers and pizzas. The amount of choices always seems to stump me and I had troubles making a decision. This time I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the help of Aashna and Jae. The flavour of the barbecue sauce was delicious on the tender pork and soft bun. The spinach was a nice touch to the sandwich, I don't re-call ever having that on a pulled pork sandwich. I also added some raw onions too to spice things up a bit.

My company had various items such as the Freehouse burger, open faced steak sandwich, spicy chicken pizza and jerk chicken. Everyone was very pleased with their meal portions and taste.

Conclusion
The food is awesome, the music is awesome, the service is awesome and the vibe is awesome.Check them out for lunch or supper this Summer followed by a walk along the river with some ice cream from the Bus Stop!

How to make Sangria

After viewing many different Sangria recipes in books and on the Internet, I decided to make a hybrid version among all of them. Sangria is simply a wine punch. This recipe serves about five or six, I made two pitchers for six people.

Ingredients
-Barefoot Merlot
-Triple Sec
-Soda Water
-Fruit

Instructions
Chop up some fruit of your choice and toss them into the pitcher. I used apples, lemons, oranges and grapefruit to give it more of a citrus taste. I cut the fruit thinly and in small pieces, for the grapefruit I cut the skin off too. This allowed the wine and fruit to give off their flavours to one another. After all the fruit was put into the pitcher, I poured in the 750 ml of wine, a cup and three quarters of soda water and 150 ml of Triple Sec. I gave it a stir and left it in the fridge over night.

Conclusion
This was my first time every drinking or making Sangria, so I have had no standards set for it. But it tasted very good, it had a sweet citrus taste and the fruit at the bottom of my glass was delicious. I heard that most people use a Brandy, but the Triple Sec gave a nice hint of orange flavour. If I were to make this again, I would use the exact same ingredients and take the same steps as well.

Cliche x adidas - Lucas Puig Pro Model

After seeing Lucas Puig's new pro model on Hypebeast, I found out that we would be receiving these at Momentum Marketplace too. The graphic is very simple but I love it. There is a black model with a size 8 width and this blue one which is 8.1. I don't collect boards but only skate them, otherwise I would have definitely copped both of them. I gripped it tonight and got to skate it for about an hour. So far, so good! The concave isn't as deep as my last board but I am able to land many of the basic flip tricks still. If you want one too, you can get them at both Momentum's here in the city or possibly online!
