Tomba! Coming to PlayStation Network

It's funny that just a couple of days ago I was complaining to a friend that Tomba! should be on PlayStation Network for download. Just yesterday MonkeyPaw Games and Sony released information that it would be available for the Summer of 2012.

Tomba! was a game for the original PlayStation console. It has a side scrolling game play where you control Tomba to retrieve his grandpa's stolen bracelet. Tomba lives in a place that was once a peaceful land, that is until seven evil pigs use magic to change the land.

I never completed the first Tomba! (I did play the demo), but only the second. They say that if there are enough sales of Tomba! they will also work on bringing the sequel to PlayStation Network as well.

Nostalgia Moment: Metal Gear Solid 2

I recently picked up the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Playstation 3 (also available on Xbox 360) from our local video game one-stop-shop Hi Tech Gametraders. Lucky break for me, Hi Tech had, what seemed to me, the last copy in the entire city.

I'm having a killer time going through MGS2 again. It's nice to play now that I'm older and can comprehend things better. When I first played MGS2 I was only 12, it was a fun game at the time, but I had no idea what the hell was going on. Even now, I'm learning more stuff about the MGS story than I ever did during my Nth play through. But damn can I still speed run through this game.

This fun pack comes loaded with HD re-releases of Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker which was originally released on the Playstation Portable.

If you wanna get technical, the Metal Gear Solid 2 game is the Substance version, which includes the MGS2 game and hours (I'm talking like 50+ hours) of extras, which ranges from challenges to non-canon stories all of which are a challenge and a boat load of fun.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is the Subsistence version, which includes MGS3 with the updated camera handling and Metal Gear 1 and 2, albeit it does not include the original Metal Gear Online, Snake Vs. Monkey game mode or Secret Theater mode.

For $40 some dollars it basically pays for itself.

Never has any set of games have such rich storyline and consistent gameplay which remain true to its nature but improve as the series progresses.

As for Metal Gear Solid 1, you can obtain that through the PSN network, unfortunately for Xbox 360 owners, you will have to find other means to play it, or you can read the Wikipedia article on it or something.

Although if you own a Gamecube or Wii, run out and get MGS: The Twin Snakes. It's MGS1 that plays like MGS2 and from personal experience, it's a bloody good game. Frankly it was the only game that I played on Gamecube.

So if you were ever interested in the MGS series, now is the time.

And just get it from Hi Tech Gametraders. Support local.

Pick Ups

Yesterday was the release of Little Big Planet 2 on Playstation 3. I bought my little sister the first one for her birthday last year and she has been waiting a long time for the sequel to come out. Just like the last one you are able to choose your outfit with clothing and accessories you find in each level. I played through one level and you can tell that there are a lot of new objects in the game while playing including my favorite: the grapple. If you enjoy playing games in group of fours, it is the perfect game. Not too hard to get the hang of, but can get pretty tricky at times.

My go to video game site, IGN has already rated it a 9. I trust their judgement.

PS3 Releases

So it appears that for the Playstation 3 there will be a release of X-Men Arcade for Playstation Network and the Sega Dreamcast Collection. The last time I ever played X-men Arcade was at that Playdium in Edmonton, which I have no reason why they closed down. I think six people were able to play at the same time with characters such as Wolverine, Cyclop and Nightcrawler. Enjoy that side scrolling action.

Sega Dreamcast Collection on the other hand contains my favorite Dreamcast game, Powerstone 2. Originally playing it I had no idea what it was from, but years later they released a television show on YTV. In my opinion it is a better Super Mario Smash Brothers, check the link.

Resident Evil 5

Whenever Dallas and I don't have plans made we choose to game. Today after researching top cooperative games on PS3 we found Resident Evil 5. This is funny because we started the second one at the beginning of the year and never finished it, because it was both hard and I got freaked out when arms grabbed me through walls. We played for a couple of hours today, and I recommend people to try this game out if they enjoy a good story and a lot of action. We aren't the most tactical or brave but the game is a lot of fun and was definitely worth it's $25 at Hi-Tech Game Traders.
