If you are anything like me, you must have Christmas music CD's in your vehicle and are finally embracing the holiday spirit. And if you aren't, well this could be your start.

Saskatchewan Jazz Festival: The Roots
On June 1st, The Roots played at the Jazz Festival for their second time. Once again it was a sold out show. The Heavyweights Brass Band and The Steadies got the show going by opening for The Roots. I caught them the last time they were here as well and I found this performance just as lively and exciting as the previous show.
The Roots played music for everyone to enjoy, whether you were there to dance, listen to some talented musicians, rap along with Black Thought or just to party, this concert was the concert for you. I was curious to what they were going to play because I never really listened to undun (their latest album), but they played a variety of other songs from their 10 other albums and covers as well. Right off the start they had the crowd going crazy by performing "Paul Revere" in respect to Adam Yauch (MCA of the Beastie Boys). It didn't end there either, they played many of my favourites and succeeded to keep the audience entertained. Check out some more photos I took at the show.
Make sure to check out some Jazz Festival shows next year!

Sweet baby, I thought this day would never come.
The Legendary Roots Crew are returning to Saskatoon for the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, Sunday, July 1, 2012.

This is unreal news. If you missed them two years ago, now is the time. You must go to this show. They put on a magnificent show.
You don't even need to listen to their music to enjoy this show, it's just that good.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at $60.00.
Just go. Just do it. Holy cannoli I can't even handle my excitement.

The Roots
Today the plan was to go to The Roots with Aashna. While planning everything out, JJ had got a ticket and was able to come along with us. The show was supposed to start at five, but this was only because there were two opening bands who each got to play for a long period of time. The Roots really started at 8:45, the three of us had decided to go to the mall.
JJ had seen Questlove leave the Bes when he heard girls say "Hey that's the guy from The Roots with the pick!" We had also saw the tuba player j-walking, on the way to Midtown. When we got there, the mall was just closing so we had to leave. When we got outside it had started raining hard with strong gusts of dust. We decided to go home, it was around six o'clock by this time and we had completely missed my sister's birthday which we could have attended. At my house we ate cupcakes, pizza and played Street Fighter 4.
At eight we headed back to the show. It was amazing, other than the stench of marijuana, tall guys in front and people who elbowed Aashna in the face! At the end of the show, JJ got Questlove's autograph and I had shook Black Thought's hand. Aashna and I really have to make going the Jazz Festival an annual routine!
